This month James shows us a Blood Shrimp that he shot on a recent dive trip.
Blood Shrimp ( Cinetorhynchus manningi - ID by Dr. Mary Wicksten - Texas A&M University) on Montastraea cavernosa - Flower Garden Banks, National Marine Sanctuary
This nocturnal decapod can be found on night dives at the Flower Gardens and it probably occurs throughout the Gulf of Mexico on hard bottom substrate. Its feeding habits are unknown so it may or may not be a good reef aquarium candidate.
