Photo Gallery: The Niger triggerfish (Odonus niger)

A great fish for a fish only system, and sometimes behave well in a reef.

The Niger triggerfish (Odonus niger) is a particularly fun fish to sit and watch. Not only does he keep an eye on what you are up to at all times he also wards off any fingers on the glass by doing a kind of sprint (with his teeth out of course). A great fish for a fish only system, and sometimes behave well in a reef. But a word of warning.... ALWAYS watch your fingers - they don't mind having a quick nibble.

Photo taken on a Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) at f 4.5, s1/120 55mm standard lens. This was enhanced using a +4 Hoya closeup filter and highly diffused flash. Post processing was applied in Photoshop CS with a use of layers and colour correction to neutralise the flash, then a final touch up with curves to get the overall shot looking natural. Unsharp mask was then applied for extra crispness.
