Advances in Coral Husbandry

Like I mentioned: this book isn't your ordinary hobbyist book (and it just became available online!).  This particular book was created from the First International Symposium of Coral Husbandry in Public Aquaria held April 16-27, 2007 and was organized by the Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem, The Netherlands.  The goal of this particular symposium (and subsequently this book) was "to bring together aquarium specialists and coral scientists from all over the world to review current know-how of the most important aspects of coral husbandry." [1]

The resulting book contains the peer-reviewed results of that symposium and is a very thorough summary of the most recent information on coral reef husbandry.  Noted scientists that presented and are included in the book include Bruce Carlson, Eric Borneman, Max Janse, J. Charles Delbeek, Joe Yaiullo, and others.

The book is broken down into five sections:

  1. Animal Husbandry and system management
  2. Coral exhibit design and large exhibits
  3. Population management
  4. Conservation and transportation
  5. Taxonomy

You can order it online in a printed format from their website or you can download all 47 chapters of the book for free from their website in PDF format.

I would say this is a must-have for those of you serious about the hobby.
