Welcome to the Photo Gallery
Spotlight. Each month we'll showcase a particularly nice aquarium photograph,
taking the time to discuss the identification and husbandry of the animal
pictured as well as information relating to the technical details of how
the photo was taken. Readers are encouraged to send images (and details
on the organisms pictured, as well as the details of how they captured
the shot) they would like to submit for possible inclusion in this feature
to terry@advancedaquarist.com .
If your submission is selected for use in the magazine, you will receive
an item from the reefs.org or advancedaquarist.com store equal to $25 or
less.

The Niger triggerfish (Odonus niger) is a particularly fun fish to
sit and watch. Not only does he keep an eye on what you are up to at all
times he also wards off any fingers on the glass by doing a kind of sprint
(with his teeth out of course). A great fish for a fish only system, and
sometimes behave well in a reef. But a word of warning.... ALWAYS watch your
fingers - they don't mind having a quick nibble.
Photo taken on a Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) at f 4.5, s1/120 55mm standard
lens. This was enhanced using a +4 Hoya closeup filter and highly diffused
flash. Post processing was applied in Photoshop CS with a use of layers and
colour correction to neutralise the flash, then a final touch up with curves
to get the overall shot looking natural. Unsharp mask was then applied for
extra crispness.
