A new website educates the public about the marine aquarium trade

With funding from National Geographic Society, a group of scientists traced and documented the supply chain of marine fish from coral reef to home aquarium. Refreshingly, unlike many exposés, the resulting website presents the information in a fair-minded and educational manner.

Reef to Aquarium is a new website dedicated to exploring how marine fish are collected, transported, traded, and sold to hobbyists.  It is based on the work of four National Geographic Explorers who set out to study the saltwater aquarium fish trade.

The website they created is beautifully designed.  More importantly, the information they present is balanced, informative, and even aspirational.  The scientists show great respect for not only the environment and animals but also the people in the trade and the hobbyists as well.

Below are five video vignettes produced from the NatGeo exploration.  While the videos are excellent in and of themselves, the website provides more information - including sound recommendations for a responsible and sustainable hobby.
