Destination Reefs: Philippines [video]

By Leonard Ho - Posted Nov 06, 2011 07:00 AM
With cold weather fast approaching for most of us (if it hasn't already arrived), I can't think of a better time to take a video tour of the world's coral reefs to warm our spirits. Every Sunday, we will visit lush tropical reefs to marvel at their beauty and gain a better appreciation and understanding of reef life.

First up: Two collections of reef scenes from the living seas of the Philippines.  The Philippines is part of the Coral Triangle and is home to some of the richest ecosystems on Earth.  The the diversity and density of reef life is breathtaking: Anemones and clownfish, huge schools of anthias, endless stands of Acropora, leather corals, sea turtles, and much much more. These beautiful videos are produced by underwater photographer/videographer Steve De Neef.

I'm a passionate aquarist of over 30 years, a coral reef lover, and the blog editor for Advanced Aquarist. While aquarium gadgets interest me, it's really livestock (especially fish), artistry of aquariums, and "method behind the madness" processes that captivate my attention.
