New species of pleco named after smallpox


Parotocinclus variola

Parotocinclus variola is described from the Amazon River, Brazil.  As far as loricarrids go, Parotocinclus are one of the smallest genera, and P.variola in particularly appears to be very small, with no collected specimen exceeding one inch (30mm) in length.
