Perhaps the world's most elegant coffee table aquarium

French aquarium fabricator Aquaniman has released the MAIAO coffee table aquarium, an all (curved) glass frameless design. Its clean and unobstructed sight-lines makes this one of the sleekest coffee table aquariums we've seen.

Aquaniman MAIAO's design is very simple.  The table aquarium is comprised of two parts: a frameless, all-glass, rectangular aquarium that sits on the floor plus a fitted curved glass table top (and legs) that slides over the aquarium to make it a functional coffee table. There is a 5 cm (2 inch) spacing around and above the aquarium to provide plenty of ventilation and prevent condensation from building up.

The MAIAO's specifications:

  • Top Dimensions: 110 x 60 x H 40 cm (43 x 24 x 16 inches)
  • Aquarium Dimensions: 100 x 52 x H 35 cm (40 x 22 x 14 inches)
  • Capacity: 140 liters (37 US gallons)
  • Glass Thickness: 10 mm
  • Empty weight: 60 kg (132 lbs)

A filtration system is located in a black box at one corner of the aquarium, which also contains two 2.2W LED spotlights to illuminate the tank from within.

Unfortunately at the time of this writing, it appears the MAIAO is only available in France.  Maybe it's for the best since its 2590 € (~$2800 USD) starting price isn't for the faint of heart.  But price be damned, it sure is a beautiful design!

Here's a video of the MAIAO.  It's in French, but the video is self-explanatory.
