This is a real reef crab!

Takedactylus compressus sp. nov.

The reason for T. compressus‘ oddly compact and very rectangular body is a mystery.  It is the only other species of the genus, whose congenor Takedactylus masatsunei, while boxy, is not where near as “geometric” as this newly discovered crab.

The new species is described in Tropical Zoology.
