Our friends at Atlantis Marine World (Long Island, NY) have formally announced their 97,498-square-foot, $24 million expansion! Construction began spring of 2010, and the new expansion is set for its grand opening in the summer of 2011.

Fresh on the heels of the Neuco Aquastar 14500K metal halide bulb, which hit stateside earlier in the year, Coralvue is expecting shipment of the Neuco Deep Blue Star 20,000K MH bulb (no exact date specified). This is a big deal for 20,000K users due to possible recent developments with Radium availability.

In an article published yesterday in the Public Library of Science journal ONE, scientists from the US FDA identified that palytoxin, one of the deadliest toxins known to man, can be found in zoanthid colonies readily available in the aquarium trade.

E.Shine Systems, China, contacted Advanced Aquarist regarding their 60W LED fixture. This unit consists of 20 CREE XR-E 3W LED (standard configuration is 10 white + 10 blue, with available customized arrays). 90W and 120W CREE -based fixtures are also in the works. Blue Harbor in Japan received a shipment of an extremely rare perch earlier in the week: the Rainfordia opercularis (an Australian endemic). Now they've added video of their specimen. For many people, this will probably be as close we'll ever come to seeing a live R.opercularis.

Taiwanese shipping company fined $1,000,000 for damages to American Samoa Reefs

The US Department of Justice has issued a press release titled 'Taiwanese Shipping Company Convicted for Discharging Oily Bilge Waste into the Waters of American Samoa.' $250,000 of the assessed penalties are to be allocated for coral reef restoration projects (where the remaining $750,000 will go is anyone's guess). WWC has posted a video of a rare White Tang over at our friends, www.reef2reef.com. Amelanistic Zebrasoma flavescens are extremely rare, and totally white specimens are even rarer (most xanthic specimens still retain some random pigmentation). See the video after the jump.

Baros Maldives issued a press release that caught my attention. Their press release opens: "Baros Maldives has been awarded EcoDive Centre status by the official Reef Check organization, and is the first resort in the Maldives to offer the international Reef Check EcoDiver programme, which empowers people to save our reefs and oceans. Becoming the first EcoDive and training centre of the Maldives, Baros now offers guests EcoDiver courses which qualifies them to help EcoDive teams to monitor reefs worldwide." So I delved deeper into the EcoDiver program.
